A. Disassembly
1. Remove carbon motor brushes.
a. Always disconnect terminal of pig
tail from brush holder before removing
brush; otherwise pig tail and terminal
may be damaged.
b. Mark brushes and brush plug nuts so
they may be reinstalled in the same pos-
ition from which they were removed.
2. Release wires from field coils, clapper
magnets and slip ring brush terminal.
3. Remove slip ring brush holder bracket.
(Fiber terminal block)
4. Take out the two bracket dowel screws
(bolts) and four (4) filister head screws
holding upper plate.
5. Tap gear shafts with fiber or brass drift
to release shafts from bearings, and
remove upper plate assembly.
NOTE: When removing upper plate assembly
do not damage clutch discs and ring gear
drive gear. The clutch discs are free
on the clutch gear shafts and if discs
are dropped serious damage may result.
a. Loosen and remove clutch gear shaft
nuts and remove clutch gears.
(1) If bearings are dirty remove the
bearing clamp and with a fiber drift
and mallet remove bearing.
(2) Follow procedure for cleaning
as outlined in Section IV,
Maintenance.
6. Remove hinge pins and release clapper
magnet armatures.
7. Remove two screws holding clapper mag-
nets, remove magnets.
8. Take out the two long screws (field pole
shoe bolts) that go through the field
coils and remove shoes and coils.
9. To remove motor
a. Tap taper pin from intermediate gear
and remove gear.
b. Remove the two screws attaching com-
mutator and bearing bracket to base.
c. Tap armature shaft free from upper
bearing.
d. Tap armature shaft to free from bear-
ing in commutator end bearing brack-
et.
B. Reassembly
1. Replace motor.
