Stabilizer disassembly (continued)

E. Torque
Motor
1. Disconnect directional gyro wire going to number
2 slip ring.
2. Disconnect wire to torque motor (isolated
terminal).
3. On M-3 disconnect ground wire from lower slip
ring (number 1).
4. Remove four (4) screws holding torque motor to
stabilizer housing.
5. Work motor loose from dowel pins and remove
torque motor assembly by tilting up and to the
right, being careful of brushes and gears.
6. Set aside for later disassembly.
F. Drift
Clutch
1. Rotate drift gear until hole is over center screw
in drift clutch collar.
2. Remove screw. This disconnects the stabilized arm
of the P.D.I. brush.
3. Remove four (4) screws holding drift gear
assembly housing to stabilizer housing.
4. Work drift clutch assembly free from dowel pins
and remove assembly.
G. P.D.I.
Coil
1. Disconnect wire to A.E.S. disconnector button
bracket (on units having A.E.S. disconnector
attachment).
2. Remove four (4) screws in P.D.I. coil mounting
plate.
3. Turn coil clockwise to free button from
disconnector on stabilized arm.
4. Pull coil toward opening in housing.
5. Turn counter clockwise so that center top bracket
will clear opening in housing.
6. Remove wires to coil and center bracket.
7. Disconnect wires to stabilized arm and remove
arm.
H. Gyro
and
Cardan
1. Grasp firmly the projection of the cardan gudgeon
and work cardan free of lower cardan gudgeon
bearing.
2. Lift upward and tilt gyro so that bearing caps
will clear the housing.
3. Be very careful when removing gyro and cardan so
that ring gear is not damaged.
4. This assembly is heavy and if dropped serious
damage will result.
I. Switch
Panel
1. Remove four (4) screws attaching switch panel to
stabilizer housing.
