Directional gyro unit

The electrically driven rotor, its bearings and motor fittings, enclosed by a ribbed case. The whole case can tilt inside the cardan while the rotor spins within it.

Follow the mechanism

The fixed field windings and brushes supply the motor. The armature, cup rotor and commutator turn together about a horizontal axis.

Gudgeons at the sides of the case carry the unit in the cardan. They are distinct from the rotor’s internal bearings.

Open the enclosure and play the slowed rotor motion; explode the groups to inspect their nesting.

Geometry follows the cited drawings and photographs. Unmeasured dimensions remain approximate; exploded spacing reveals existing model groups rather than a prescribed disassembly procedure.
