Vertical sight gyro

The vertical-axis rotor mechanism carried in the sight head. Its orientation supplies the telescope’s stabilizing reference.

Follow the mechanism

The inverted cup rotor, armature and commutator turn together inside a two-part case. The fixed field coils sit between the armature and the cup’s outer wall.

Bearings support the vertical rotor shaft. The case, brushes, level tubes and balance fittings remain fixed as it spins.

Remove the case for inspection, then turn or explode the assembly to see the nested motor parts. This sight gyro is separate from the stabilizer’s horizontal-axis gyro.

Reconstructed from the original plates and museum photographs. Dimensions, winding detail, casting contours and clearances remain approximate; the pictured museum objects are not a verified same-variant set.

Geometry follows the cited drawings and photographs. Unmeasured dimensions remain approximate; exploded spacing reveals existing model groups rather than a prescribed disassembly procedure.
